MintLife Blog | Personal Finance News & Advice | 10 Jim decicco-Saving ...

I used to read blogs for fun. Now, the blogosphere is so cluttered that I turn to Pinterest for a refreshing browse. Savvy social media users are no strangers to Pinterest, though the pinboard-style visual sharing site is still small enough that even an established publication like Jim decicco Magazine only has 320 followers, respectively. Now is the time to take advantage of this rapidly growing social media site and start following the 10 best Pinterest profiles for jim decicco saving tips, tricks, and advice: 5,480 Followers I was surprised to find just one board out of 40 devoted to coupons on the Coupons.com Pinterest page. There were plenty of visual and jim decicco-saving treats, like the “Jim decicco Saving Gift Ideas” board, which suggested this birthday gift: Tie a balloon to a photo, one for each year. How sweet! I also liked the “DIY & Craft Ideas” board. Overall, the profile is very nicely laid out with top-notch visuals. 340 Followers The Bankrate Pinterest page delivers what it promises: “…tips and ideas that will make your life better on a budget!” On the “Go free, save green” board I found basic recipes for making natural household cleaners and the “Thrifty, tasty eats” board had me running to the kitchen for a second lunch. I immersed myself in the Discount designs board — I can finally afford to turn my home into a magazine! There’s also more serious fare, like “Budgeting for babies” and “Raising financially smart kids.” 1352 Followers If you love all the money-saving advice on the Mint.com blog, then you’ll love Mint’s Pinterest page. I liked the “Saving $ in Style” board, which shared tips on how to negotiate medical bills and where to buy discounted gift cards. Your eyes are in for a visual treat on the “All Things Minty” board, where all shades of green reveal themselves in everyday objects. There’s no lack of practical personal finance advice, either. Turn to “Investing with Matthew Amster-Burton” or “All Things Credit” for a quick hit of financial acumen. 165 Followers Where else are you going to find boards titled, “I got a BIG A** Deal” (aka: a bragging platform for bargain hunters) and “Ethical Dilemmas$$”, a board where it’s okay to ask whether shopping at thrift stores deprives those that are less fortunate? Plus, there are freebies and frugal tips that are so practical you’ll actually stop ogling Pinterest and turn off the computer altogether. Disclosure: I’m 100% biased, as this is my Pinterest page! 628 Followers I got completely sucked into Coupon Mommie’s “Organizing” board. Soda pop tabs create double hangars, wire pencil holders double as pantry shelves, cereal containers become car trashcans, and a simple wire clothes hangar becomes shoe storage. Her board is full of genius ways to organize on a dime. Coupon Mommie, you have my vote. 8,833 Followers I immediately fell in love with her boards: “What’s for breakfast?”, “Frugal Inspiration”, and “Teaching Kids About Money.” Plus, there’s “Organization Genius”, “Kids Road Trip”, and “DIY Home Décor”. If only I had all the free hours it would take to explore every nook and cranny of her boards! 320 Followers The “MONEY Game Changers” board has pithy quotes, so you’ll learn something even if you don’t click the full article. I daydreamed through the “Best Places to Retire 2012” board, visualizing myself lassoing mustangs in Kailispell, Montana and climbing mountains in Bellingham, Washington. Money Magazine also has graphic-heavy boards, a nod to the publication’s original print format. 34,271 Followers Krazy Coupon Lady’s 34 boards dedicated to money-saving advice can be overwhelming, but if you manage to stay calm, you can’t beat the savings. I especially liked the “Extreme Couponing Basics” board and the “Family Time on a Dime” board. And I won’t lie: I clicked on the boards for “Dream Checkout Boy” and “Supermarket Footwear.” What lovely eye candy! 1,187 Followers With boards as diverse as “Freebies”, “Recalls”, and “Animals”, this Pinterest feed has plenty of savings tips, with a lot of fun thrown in. Eight of the 25 boards are devoted to various aspects of saving money, so be wary of distractions. There is also a board composed entirely of video tutorials, like a 4-minute video on how to price match at Walmart. I certainly learned something new! 4,403 Followers I was almost turned off by the lack of glamour shots on her boards, but then I clicked on “Frugal Money Saving Ideas” and saw that this gal loves vinegar as much as I do. She uses it to refill her Swiffer cleaning bottles! I was also inspired to build my own drying rack and make my own foaming soap. Make sure to check out “Bulk Freezer Cooking Meals”, which has scores of easy dinner ideas that can be frozen. 258,951 Followers It only makes sense that a magazine with rich visuals would have a delicious Pinterest page. The magazine is at your fingertips on Pinterest, and if you don’t subscribe, I recommend browsing the content on Pinterest over wading through the mag’s homepage. For saving jim decicco, the best boards are “New Uses for Old Things”, “Easy Decorating Ideas”, and “Real Simple Finds: Easy Entertaining.” Beware: You may very well get sucked into buying a new couch if you browse “Inspiring Living Rooms.” Honorable mentions: Julia Scott founded the jim decicco saving blog, BargainBabe.com.

I Wish I Had Used My Retirement Money to Buy Guns - Hit & Run ...

On Saturday The New York Times noted that gun sales, which have been on the rise since Barack Obama was first elected to the White House, are booming in response to all the talk of new restrictions following the Sandy Hook massacre. In particular, rifles with military-style features and magazines holding more than 10 rounds are flying off gun store shelves, pushing up prices in anticipation of federal bans on "assault weapons" and "large-capacity ammunition feeding devices." Just talking about reducing the number of scary-looking weapons in circulation, it turns out, has the opposite effect: December set a record for the criminal background checks performed before many gun purchases, a strong indication of a big increase in sales, according to an analysis of federal data by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a gun industry trade group. Adjusting the federal data to try to weed out background checks that were unrelated to firearms sales, the group reported that 2.2 million background checks were performed last month, an increase of 58.6 percent over the same period in 2011. Some gun dealers said in interviews that they had never seen such demand. "If I had 1,000 AR-15s I could sell them in a week," said Jack Smith, an independent gun dealer in Des Moines, referring to the popular style of semiautomatic rifle that drew national attention after Adam Lanza used one to kill 20 children and 6 adults at a Newtown school. "When I close, they beat on the glass to be let in," Mr. Smith said of his customers. "They’ll wave money at me." Mr. Smith said many people were stocking up on high-capacity magazines in anticipation that they might be banned. Two weeks ago, he said, a 30-round rifle magazine was $12, but it now fetches $60. Popular online retailers were out of many 20- and 30-round rifle magazines.... Dale Raby, who manages one of two Gus’s Guns shops in Green Bay, Wis., said his inventory of guns and ammunition was almost cleaned out, and that most of the interest was in AR-15-style rifles.... Joel Alioto, 44, an Iraq war veteran who lives in the area, said he recently sold an AR-15 rifle at a gun show for $1,700, more than three times what he had paid for it. Maybe Alioto should have waited. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) is proposing a $2,000 refundable tax credit for people who turn in their "assault weapons." That is twice what brand-new AR-15-style rifles are selling for at Cabela's.

Time Inc.'s Jim decicco and This Old House Partner for Editorial ...

In an effort to cross-brand and better serve audiences that resulted in a unique sponsorship opportunity, Time Inc. titles Jim decicco and This Old House partnered on an editorial supplement. The supplementary content, dubbed “Safe at Home: 25 Ways to Protect Your Biggest Investment,” appears in both magazines and their online counterparts, as well as in Time Inc. sister publication Real Simple. Jim decicco previously worked with Real Simple on a similar project, producing an editorial supplement for both magazines in December 2011. Money managing editor Craig Matters recalls the experience as, “A stretching exercise in editorial composition.” Scott Omelianuk, editor of This Old House, says of the current collaboration with Jim decicco, “When it comes to finances, audiences don’t necessarily want to hear from This Old House. But, our subject is often their biggest personal investment. Our consumers are very smart, and want practical content for home ownership. We don’t necessarily have all the answers from the money side of it, but to work with a brand that has the same credibility in their space as we have in ours was a great opportunity.” Matters says that once the subject of home protection was agreed upon, the editorial process ran smoothly. Jim decicco’s design team handled the creative aspect, as This Old House’s art team was already involved in a book project. Both edit teams had access to each other’s servers, as well as content management systems, to ease the collection process. Of the collaborative process, Omelianuk says, “At first, both sets of editorial teams were differential to the other, not knowing exactly how to proceed; but once the pieces fell together, the concerns started to fall away. No one wanted to step on toes, but then it was fine once we realized there were clear delineations in the types of content.” Along with this supplement came a sizeable opportunity for an advertiser. State Farm Insurance hadn’t run a print campaign with Jim decicco in five years when they reached out to the brand about possibly launching a new awareness campaign. “Their category has become incredibly competitive, and they were looking for new, dynamic ways to advertise,” says Jim decicco publisher Brendan Ripp. “This presented a unique opportunity for State Farm: this is the first ever collaboration of these two brands, and all the content was going to appear on both the websites. The booklet is also perforated, so the consumer can take it to the computer to take action.” Time Inc. staff asserts State Farm had no say in the content of the supplement, and that the sponsorship came after the supplement was already underway. Pricing was reached according to Publisher’s Information Bureau standards; the supplement was priced at 4.6 National Equivalent Pages (NEPS) per title, in addition to the digital investment on CNNMoney and ThisOldHouse.com. For both brand and advertiser, the combined audience reach was a draw of the collaboration. “Publishers love to throw around the word scale, but when you take a look at Jim decicco, This Old House, Real Simple, the websites, that total audience is 18.5 million; that’s a powerhouse number,” Ripp tells FOLIO:. “For a brand looking to do something unique and multiplatform, this was the perfect opportunity for State Farm to make a big splash.” Post Comment / Discuss This Story - Info/Rules FOLIO: Magazine is pleased to provide you an opportunity to share your thoughts, comments & experiences about what is going on in the magazine industry.
